Ways to Donate

Money  we give away reflects the change

we want to see in the world.

Through its quarter-century history, SCI's donors have saved

and changed lives with simple solar thermal cooking technology.

Donate your IRA required minimum distribution (RMD)

If you are 72 (70 1/2 before January 1, 2020) and older, you can contribute up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to Solar Cookers International to avoid paying income taxes on the distribution. Solar Cookers International is a qualified 501(c)(3) that can receive your Qualified Charitable Contribution by contacting your IRA custodian.

A required minimum distribution (RMD) is a requirement by the IRS for individuals aged 72 (70 1/2 before January 1, 2020) and older to withdraw from their IRA. RMDs are subject to income taxes and are included in the IRS’ calculation of taxable income.

Donate stocks and securities

Making a gift of stock is a simple and powerful way to support the work of Solar Cookers International. Some donors are surprised to learn how easy it is to donate shares of stock. Many people choose to make their charitable contributions to SCI through stocks. If you decide to make your gift this way, please let us know so that we can thank you properly.

You can learn more about the benefits of giving stock or DAF gifts here: https://www.solarcookers.org/about/blog/DAF

To donate stocks, simply authorize your broker to transfer your shares using the information below:

For the account of Solar Cookers International

DTC Number: 0164

Account Number: 7981-4815

Financial Institution’s Name: Charles Schwab & Co, Inc.

Often a mutual fund company will require that an account be established in the name of the donation recipient.  Involving SCI in the establishment of such an account will help ensure SCI receives the funds you wish to donate in a timely manner.  Please note that mutual fund donations require a longer processing time.

You may designate SCI as a beneficiary for each certificate of deposit (CD).  As CDs mature, the beneficiary designation will need to be resubmitted, or it can be set up to automatically roll over to a new CD and automatically retain the beneficiary.

Increase your impact through employers’ matching charitable gifts

Many employers will increase the value of a contribution by matching your charitable gift to SCI. Please consider selecting SCI in a matching gift program if it is available to you.

Donate a vehicle in support of SCI

Do you have a car you no longer need? SCI is participating in the CARS program which allows individuals to donate almost any vehicle from cars and trucks to RVs, boats, and even airplanes in support of a nonprofit. CARS works with hundreds of vendors throughout the country to provide free pick-up with 70% of the proceeds going to SCI. CARS also handles all of the tax paperwork to make the process as easy as possible.
