With a passion for alleviating poverty and building healthy and safe communities, Syrah Caparas is excited to be part of a team that does just that. As SCI’s Communications Coordinator, Syrah shares SCI’s mission by writing stories, creating digital and print material, and spreading the word by utilizing various platforms. By reaching different corners of the world and sharing the impact that solar cooking has, Syrah believes that eradicating poverty is possible in her lifetime.
Born and raised in the California Bay Area (USA), Syrah has spent time with various nonprofits which include LifeSTEPS, Volunteers of America, the International Rescue Committee, and AIDS Walk San Francisco. From affordable housing to refugee resettlement, to working with the homeless community in Sacramento, Syrah has always been involved in the issues she’s most passionate about, and that led her to Solar Cookers International.
Syrah joined SCI in 2019. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Arts Degree from City University London. In her spare time, Syrah enjoys collecting vinyl, writing for various online and print publications, and supporting the creative community in Sacramento.
