At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 15, 2024, Solar Cookers International (SCI) shared exciting news about a new solar cooking initiative in the Central African Republic (CAR). Dr. Stephane Villatte, SCI Program Officer, and Alan Bigelow, Ph.D., SCI Program and Science Director, spoke about plans to work with the University of Bangui to develop local solar cookstove manufacturing.

According to the World Bank, less than 1% of CAR’s population has access to clean cooking fuels and technologies. By building local manufacturing capacity, this initiative will help provide sustainable cooking solutions for communities in need.

SCI’s participation in COP29 was made possible by the generous support of our donors. Your contributions allow us to bring solar cooking solutions to global discussions and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

Thank you for supporting SCI in our mission to make solar cooking accessible for everyone.
