Advocating for a Sun-powered Future

Elevating Solar Cooking to the Global Stage

Around the world, billions of people still cook over open fires and polluting stoves — risking their health, their future, and the planet. At the United Nations and beyond, Solar Cookers International is making sure their voices are heard.

Through our official role with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), SCI brings frontline stories, research, and real-world evidence into global decision-making spaces. Our advocacy helps move solar cooking from the margins to the center of international policy — influencing funding, shaping climate and development strategies, and accelerating access to renewable energy for underserved communities.

Through consistent global advocacy, solar cooking is now recognized as a powerful tool for climate resilience, gender equity, and sustainable development. Each year, our presence helps unlock new partnerships, expand funding opportunities, and strengthen momentum for clean cooking worldwide.

Solar cooking supports all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals — improving health, reducing poverty, protecting forests, advancing gender equality, and cutting carbon emissions. Our advocacy ensures that this solution remains visible, valued, and scalable.

Clean Cooking on the Sustainable Development Agenda

At the UN’s main platform for tracking progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, SCI demonstrates how solar cooking supports every dimension of development.

We present new research and case studies linking clean cooking to health, education, climate action, food security, and economic opportunity. Our sessions bring together experts, practitioners, and policymakers to strengthen the case for solar cooking as an affordable, scalable solution.
