Produced in collaboration with TEALEAVES, the short film offers a sneak peek into the prevailing environmental and health conditions for people living in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, and the positive impact of solar cooking on the community.

Home to approximately 200,000 people, Kakuma Refugee Camp is among the largest refugee camps in the world. Most inhabitants were people who were forced to flee war and violence. The camp has been in existence for more than 30 years and faces harsh environmental conditions such as deforestation and frequent sand storms. Limited options for cooking fuel force many residents to rely on charcoal and wood, which causes indoor air pollution. Rebecca, a program participant, explains, "Sometimes, it's hard to get charcoal and also the children cooking with it, some of them were having respiratory issues. I was also experiencing heart problems from the smoke."

Watch the video to learn how your support of SCI is helping to uplift the community through a sustainable cooking alternative: solar cookers.
