From Policy to Practice at COP30: Scalable Clean Cooking Solutions for the SDGs
On November 18, Solar Cookers International (SCI) participated in an engaging side event at the SDG Pavilion during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) titled “From Policy to Practice: Scalable Clean Cooking Solutions for the SDGs.” The event highlighted inclusive clean cooking initiatives from India, Indonesia, and Central Africa—demonstrating how practical, community-centered technologies can drive the clean energy transition, empower women, and accelerate progress across the Sustainable Development Goals.
Expertly moderated by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the event featured SCI Executive Director Caitlyn Hughes, SCI Program & Science Director Alan Bigelow, Ph.D., and Polycarpe Charlemagne Mandayen, National Designated Entity for Climate Technology Transfer and CTCN Focal Point for the Central African Republic (CAR), who shared insights on the transformative potential of zero-emission solar cooking. The speakers emphasized how clean cooking innovations reduce household emissions, improve health, support economic resilience, and protect forests—benefits that disproportionately uplift women and youth.
