Advancing Solar Cooking Solutions — SCI’s COP30 Press Conference
On Monday, November 17, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, Solar Cookers International (SCI) convened a second press conference focused on scaling people-centered, solar cooking solutions. The event featured Polycarpe Charlemagne Mandayen, National Designated Entity for Climate Technology Transfer and CTCN Focal Point for the Central African Republic; Mikael Melin, Head of People-Centred Programmes at Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL); SCI Executive Director Caitlyn Hughes; and SCI Program & Science Director Alan Bigelow, Ph.D.
Speakers emphasized the urgent need to transition communities away from polluting fuels, which continue to drive deforestation, health inequities, and climate vulnerability. They discussed the vital role of solar cooking in delivering clean energy access while empowering women, strengthening resilience, and supporting national climate goals.
SCI reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with global partners to expand clean cooking access worldwide—ensuring that climate solutions remain equitable, inclusive, and community-driven.
