Solar Cookers International at Africa Climate Week and Africa Climate Summit 2

Solar Cookers International (SCI) was honored to participate in Africa Climate Week and the Africa Climate Summit 2, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This important gathering brought together leaders, innovators, and organizations committed to advancing solutions for climate resilience across the continent.
SCI’s Strategic Partnerships Manager, Keith Wingeard, represented the organization and shared how meaningful it was to be part of the conversations shaping Africa’s climate future:
“Attending Africa Climate Week and Africa Climate Summit 2 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was tremendously motivating and encouraging. Clean cooking, with links to the environment, health, gender equity, economic well-being, and climate change, remains a top priority in the region, evidenced by the size of the crowd at one of the clean cooking-themed events, with all 250 seats in the room filled and a number of people forced to stand at the back in order to listen to the speakers. Although many news headlines rightly highlight the scale and complexity of the climate challenges we face, seeing and meeting with organizations working across the Africa region that remain committed to climate smart innovations like solar cooking shows the commitment and vast potential to leverage impactful solutions, built locally and contributing to the resiliency of African communities on the front lines of climate change. A key theme throughout the week was how investing in climate technologies can be beneficial for vulnerable communities while also creating job opportunities that contribute to economic growth. Solar Cookers International remains committed to working with government representatives, civil society organizations, private sector businesses, and international agencies to ensure climate friendly solar cooking contributes to how we build more sustainable communities today and into the future.”
