At the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, Solar Cookers International (SCI) hosted a press conference on Wednesday, November 12, highlighting its impactful clean-cooking programs in Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR). Guest speaker Polycarpe Charlemagne Mandayen, National Designated Entity for Climate Technology Transfer and CTCN Focal Point for CAR, joined SCI’s Program & Science Director Alan Bigelow, Ph.D., to discuss how communities in both countries rely heavily on polluting fuels for daily cooking.

The speakers emphasized how SCI’s solar cooking initiatives—supported by the United Nations Environment Programme’s Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN)—are bringing sustainable, clean cooking solutions to women and young girls, improving health, reducing deforestation, and expanding climate resilience.

SCI extends deep gratitude to its donors for making these life-changing programs possible. To learn more about your impact in Mali and CAR, click here.
