124 Solar Cookers Manufactured for Refugee Families
Thanks to your support, the production of 124 solar cookers for Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, was completed this month for the 2025 implementation cycle. These cookers will provide 868 more refugees with life-saving solar cooking. Since 2018, you have helped provide almost 4,000 refugees with 524 solar cookers in the camp.
These eco-friendly, zero-emissions solar cookers were manufactured at the Kiini Institute in Chuka, Kenya, using locally sourced materials. Each solar cooker is built to lasts 10 to 15 years according to the open-source design. Feedback from program participants also guides improvements through inclusive design. Through SCI's collaborator and implementing organization Eco-Impact Hub CBO, this year’s program participants will receive hands-on training in solar cooker use, along with ongoing guidance throughout the program cycle.
Your support further helped employ and train local Kenyans in woodworking and carpentry, providing them with valuable skills. We’re excited to share photos from the production process and can’t wait for these cookers to make a tangible difference in the lives of program participants. Thank you for being a part of this journey!
