“I was compelled to join the board of Solar Cookers International because of my passion for sustainable living and empowering communities. Solar cooking is not just a method of preparing food; it's a transformative solution that addresses environmental, social, and economic challenges simultaneously.

I'm proud to work for an organization that champions the use of solar cookers to alleviate poverty, reduce deforestation, and mitigate the harmful effects of traditional cooking methods on health. The impact goes beyond the kitchen; it fosters resilience, empowers women, and promotes self-sufficiency in marginalized communities worldwide.

Solar cooking embodies innovation and hope for a brighter, cleaner future. It's more than a technology; it's a catalyst for positive change, and I am honored to be a part of this movement," says Kira Simon.

Ms. Kira Simon joined the SCI Board of Directors in December 2023 with 14 years of Project Management experience. Kira is currently employed as a Senior Project Manager for a small consultant firm in Sacramento, CA.

“My most significant personal career achievement is obtaining my Master’s Degree. My Grandfather instilled the importance of getting an education into me from a very young age. He would always say, “An education is something that no one can take from you.” My Grandfather never graduated High School but was the smartest man I knew. He fathered 11 children and built the family home with his own bare hands.

I later became the first and only grandchild to get my master’s degree. I thought of him every day as I journeyed through my program. Having a Masters's Degree in Project Management not only fulfilled his dreams for me but it also catapulted me into my career as a Project Manager. As a Project Manager, I have been able to work on some significant projects such as the development of an online University and implementing a ticketless queuing system for the State of CA,” shared Ms. Simon

Kira holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Phoenix, a Master’s Degree in Project Management from the University of Maryland University College, a PMP from PMI (Project Management Institute), ITIL, CSM, and Six Sigma Green Belt certificate.
